Connections and Coincidences

James Burke is the host of a show called Connections (also Connections2 and Connections3) and reading one of his books, The Pinball Effect — How Renaissance Water Gardens Made the Carburettor Possible and Other Journeys Through Knowledge, really brings the mind to thinking about whether or not there is a reason for everything.  Is it luck that the brilliant thinkers of the world are often acquainted with each other, or is it more?

In either case, read the book.  The man is brilliant.

An Actual Reason to Learn Grammar

Or maybe everyone is lying.  Everybody lies.

In either case:

An English Professor wrote the words:

"A woman without her man is nothing"

on the chalkboard and asked the class to punctuate it properly.

All the males wrote:

All the females wrote:

Punctuation is powerful.

Coffee, Oh how I love thee

Coffee has benefits!

I knew it!  Muhahaha!

Coffee protects against cancer, alzhemizers, suicide, and diabetes.  My god, it sounds like the drink Ponce De Leon was looking for in his quest for the fountain of youth.

Ren Faire

So I'm going to be going to a Renaissance Faire soon with a close friend, Shae, and my best friend Paul.  I'm so excited about it, though Shae wants to dress up - and I know I'll end up sewing. Heh.  On the other hand, Paul doesn't seem adverse to dressing up, and in fact, I just learned how to make a doublet and pumpkin pants today!  I'll sew all that is necessary in order to get pictures of Paul in tights and pumpkin pants.

I think I told Bunny and Ted, and if not, they'll know soon, at minimum me and Shae will be crashing in the living room.  I'm not sure bout Paul, he may crash at Steph's or Trev's.  Also, Paul 2 sounded interested in going as well when Shae told him.  Laura jumped for joy at the prospect which can make things interesting as well.  You see, complications arise better then cable entertainment is born when someone has both a boy friend and a girl friend and they both want to come to the same Ren Faire.  And be surrounded by the Phipps family.

In either case, we're going on Military History Weekend (May 26, 27, and 28) and Paul is pushing the 28th so he can get in free.  He's such a tight wad. Oh well.  Love!

Carnivals

I am now, and probably forever more, addicted to carnivals.  I just love them and I can't believe I've been missing out for so long.  I rarely play the games because the rides are what I go for.

Maybe I'm weird, but I absolutely love the adrenaline rush and it feels peaceful to be on a ride.  The lack of control, with all the people screaming everywhere, and theres nothing to be done  until the ride controller decides the ride is over. And you never know when the ride controller will decide to screw with the passengers by making it go backwards randomly, or making the ride slow like its stopping before whirling back into full speed.

Or maybe I'm just the weird girl that gets on the rides and can't help but laugh  the entire time.

Learn To Speak Carefully

Last night an actress, lets call her J, missed rehearsal and we couldn't get a hold of her at all.  I was pissed because her role is pretty vital to the show and with no warning or explanation it sucks to have someone missing - especially when its a very short rehearsal period.

In my anger I said something along the lines of "She better be in a ditch or a hospital!"

Little did I know.

Today I found out that J had gone to a restaurant and a guy she chatted with slipped something into her drink.  She fell down on the way to rehearsal and doesn't remember anything until Midnight when her roommate/girlfriend took her to the hospital.  At around 9:00 she was found by another girl laying on the side of a road.

Damn it.  I felt bad about cursing her.
Maybe next time I just shouldn't stress it... Unless its a show.  In that case I'll freak out no matter what.
